Fake News proliferates on social media and undermines the truth. It even helped decide the winner of the 2016 election. This week on State of Belief, Interfaith Alliance’s radio show and podcast, we’ll hear from a leading group that is tackling the problem head-on.
Host Rev. Welton Gaddy will be joined by Eric Boehlert, senior fellow at Media Matters. The group was originally created to fight disinformation from Fox News and Rush Limbaugh, but it’s dramatically shifting its focus in the wake of the election to tackle fake news. A shocking percentage of Americans believe outright lies and falsehoods that originate on social media. We’ll discuss how defenders of the truth can fight back.
Welton will also speak with longtime LGBT and religious freedom activist Donna Red Wing, who is stepping down as Executive Director of One Iowa. Once called “the most dangerous woman in America” by the Religious Right, she will share some of the lessons she’s learned from a lifetime of activism for freedom and equality.
Finally, Welton will be joined by retired Bishop Gene Robinson, who was the first openly gay bishop in the U.S. Episcopal church. Bishop Robinson will reflect upon his years of ministry during tumultuous times and discuss hope and faith in the age of Trump. With the holidays nearly upon us and a new president preparing to take office, you won’t want to miss their conversation.
