In 2016

On this episode of State of Belief, Interfaith Alliance’s weekly radio show and podcast, Rev. Welton Gaddy will discuss the dangerous affects of state laws that let parents make critical decisions to deny their child’s medical care under the guise of “religious freedom.” We’ll then talk with a campaign veteran about important issues around the election we may be missing – or refusing to listen to. Finally, as this episode falls during Passover, Welton will speak with Rabbi Brad Hirscfeld about the lessons we can all learn from the holiday. Download Icon

The Danger of Denying Medical Care to Children
Can a parent refuse medical care for their children if their faith instructs them to count on prayer alone for healing? In 32 states, protections are on the books for parents who make these potentially life-threatening decisions under the auspices of religious beliefs. Judy Cross, Board Chair at Interfaith Alliance of Idaho, joins Welton to discuss these laws, how they affect families in her community, and her work with a statewide coaltion that is demanding a change.

Catching Up on the 2016 Election
For many of us, this seemingly endless political season is fast becoming background noise – it can be difficult to keep up with each new story, news cycle or scandal. That’s why we’re excited to welcome back Greg Lebel, assistant professor of Political Management at George Washington University, to talk about the upcoming election. A veteran of several presidential campaigns, he’ll highlight what’s been happening and what stories or trends we, and the media, should be paying more attention to.

The Wisdom of Passover
Chag Sameach! The Jewish observance of Passover began at sundown Friday night. To discuss the lessons beyond Judaism, and even beyond religion, that Passover offers, Rabbi Brad Hirschfeld, president of Clal, the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, joins us on State of Belief. He’ll also discuss a recent response he wrote to the proliferation of divisive “religious freedom” laws in states across the country, and how these affect people of all faiths. PLEASE CLICK HERE FOR EXTENDED INTERVIEW AND TRANSCRIPT.
