Interfaith Panel Discusses Virginia Tech Shootings
Bishop, Imam, Rabbi Find Common Themes in Handling Tragedy
Washington, D.C. – On this Sunday’s “State of Belief,” The Interfaith Alliance Foundation’s show on Air America Radio, Rev. Dr. C. Welton Gaddy hosts an interfaith roundtable discussion of this week’s shootings at Virginia Tech. The panel consisted of Bishop Jane Holmes Dixon, Senior Adviser for Inter-religious Affairs at The Interfaith Alliance; Imam Mahdi Bray, Executive Director of the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation; and Rabbi Ethan Seidel, leader of the Tifereth Israel Congregation in Washington, D.C.
Rev. Gaddy and his guests delve into how each of their faith traditions handles grieving, why a loving God would allow something so terrible to happen, and why we treat this differently than violence elsewhere in the world. Though their faith traditions are different, the panelists found several common themes about how to minister through a tragedy.
