In December 2006 – during our first year on air – Welton spoke with Rev. Joel Hunter. At the time, Hunter had stepped down from his position as the head of the Christian Coalition only months after being selected, alarmed over the same issues that have damaged the political religious right so badly during the intervening years. He made headlines again in 2017, after announcing he was stepping down as leader of the 20,000-strong Northland Church, Florida’s largest Evangelical congregation. At age 69, he says he wants to devote his time to starting a new ministry to help the poor and homeless. The interview may be nearly a decade old, but it offers essential insights for today.
