On the next State of Belief Radio –

After Monday’s mass shooting at the Washington Navy Yard, the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III will be on the show to talk about gun violence and mental illness, cultural taboos – and redemptive honesty. Rev. Moss movingly shared the tragic story of how mental illness impacted his own family in the October issue of Ebony Magazine.

Sigh. It’s “ex-gay awareness month.” So on this week’s show, we’re going to make absolutely sure you’re aware.

Actually, the folks promoting that probably aren’t eager to have us explore the damage to lives and to faith that the pseudo-science of conversion therapy does. But explore it we will, with ex-gay survivor, researcher and author Dr. Jallen Rix. His book is “Ex Gay? No Way!” We’ll ask him about the comprehensive survey of fellow ex-gay survivors organized under the auspices of the online support group www.beyondexgay.com

You’ll also meet Linda Robertson, whose Evangelical faith taught her and her husband to love their gay son – but never fully accept his homosexuality. Incredibly, they’ve turned his tragic death into a ministry to other Christian parents. Linda tells the story in the Huffington Post article, “Just Because He Breathes: Learning to Truly Love Our Gay Son.”

That’s all coming up this weekend on State of Belief! Here’s how to listen.
