Here’s what’s coming up this weekend on State of Belief Radio –
The latest attack on Planned Parenthood. While journalists call it “dishonest,” conservative lawmakers are gleefully digging the organization’s grave. We’ll talk with the Rev. Donna Schaper, Senior Minister at Judson Memorial Church in New York City, who writes that the attack is nothing short of evil in her Religion Dispatches article, Religion, Lies and Videotape: Planned Parenthood and the Latest Fake Sting.
Also, the Oklahoma State Capitol Ten Commandments monument still stands – despite a court order saying “Thou Shalt Take It Down.” We’ll get an update from the Rev. Bob Lawrence, Executive Director of the Tulsa Interfaith Alliance. Together with Oklahoma Interfaith Alliance and the national Interfaith Alliance, the group has called for an end to stalling tactics after the state Supreme Court ruled that the monument has to go.
And a new small business survey shows little enthusiasm for the right to discriminate under cover of religion. Sally Steenland, Director of the Faith and Progressive Policy Initiative at the Center for American Progress will have the details. We’ll also talk about the newly-introduced Equality Act, expanding on and replacing the long-stalled Employment Non-discrimination Act, or ENDA.
