Here’s what’s coming up this weekend on State of Belief Radio –
The ongoing tensions in Ferguson, MO following the police shooting death of an unarmed 18-year-old African American man have sparked a conversation among faith leaders nationwide. This week, we bring together two leading voices on faith and social justice – National Cathedral Dean, the Most Rev. Dr. Gary Hall, and the Rev. Dr. Derrick Harkins, Senior Minister at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church in Washington, DC and the head of the DNC’s faith outreach effort.
Also, an important new report from the Human Rights Campaign, titled Exposed: The World Congress of Families, An American Organization Exporting Hate. Sadly, it seems anything with the word “family” in its name guarantees a rabidly anti-gay position these days – and WCF is no exception. We’ll speak with the report’s author, Rebecca Parks.
And what does it take to leave behind a lifetime of religious right political activism? Joyce Elaine White, recently profiled for the American Prospect by investigative journalist Sarah Posner in a piece titled The Chains of Dominion, talks to Welton about their shared backgrounds and journeys of conscience.
