Here’s what’s coming up this weekend on State of Belief Radio –
The president announces executive actions to fight gun violence. We’ll talk with Pastor Mike McBride of the PICO Network, who’s long been at the forefront of faith-based activism on this issue. (You can watch video of Pastor Mike in-studio with Welton in 2013, right after a meeting with Vice President Biden on gun violence, by clicking here.)
Also, Igor Volsky of the Center of American Progress. He’s effectively twitter-shamed lawmakers who ignore the need for concrete action on gun violence while pocketing gun lobby dollars. Follow Igor on Twitter for ongoing “accounting.” And be sure to read CAP’s new Framework for Action: 28 Ideas for State Executive Action to Prevent Gun Violence and Fight Gun Crime by clicking here.
A veteran broadcaster and progressive activist, Jon Sinton will share some memories of his time at Air America – where this show was born ten years ago this week – and offer insights on the state of progressive broadcasting in America. In 2011, Jon launched the Progressive Voices Network, an online platform which includes State of Belief Radio twice every weekend.
And Rabbi Jay Michaelson will explain what this election cycle’s “angry voter” phenomenon is all about. He recently wrote about the fear that’s driving the scapegoating that candidates like Donald Trump are successfully exploiting in his Daily Beast article, The Religious Right Is Right to Be Scared: Christianity Is Dying in America.
