This weekend on State of Belief, a celebration of freedom in honor of the Fourth of July. Host Welton Gaddy speaks with the owner of an original copy of the Declaration of Independence. Plus, some insight into what the Founding Fathers got right when it comes to religious liberty. And, don’t miss Welton’s own thoughts on what this national holiday means to him.

 

Host Welton Gaddy is joined by television producer Norman Lear. In 2001, Norman Lear started the Declaration of Independence Road Trip, a national tour of an original reproduction of the document owned by Lear and his wife. Norman Lear is also the founder of People for the American Way and Declare Yourself, an effort to get young people to vote. His latest project is called, Born Again American.

Welton offers a special Fourth of July commentary.

And, Reverend Forrest Church talks with Welton about religious liberty and the meaning of freedom. Forrest Church is Minister of Public Theology of All Souls in New York City. His books include The American Creed: A Spiritual and Patriotic Primer and So Help Me God, The Founding Fathers and the First Great Battle over Church and State.
