According to Steve Schmidt, a top-ranking McCain campaign official, Sarah Palin believed that she had some help in securing the spot just below John McCain on the 2008 Republican ticket. The Associated Press reports on a conversation between the campaign staffer and the would be vice-president:

Schmidt said he asked Palin about her serenity in the face of becoming “one of the most famous people in the world.” He quoted her as saying, “It’s God’s plan.”

Sarah Palin did NOT say that the Iraq War was part of God’s will. She was echoing Lincoln’s sentiment that instead of saying that God is on our side that we need to be on God’s side. Also, The other quote sounds much more like she was simply putting her faith in God that He had a plan for her – the details of that plan to be filled in later.
